In a first step, organic waste from agriculture or the food industry is collected, sorted and reduced in size. This finished substrate is then combined with the mycelium. In a controlled environment, the optimum conditions are created for the substrate to bond with the mushroom roots and the multifunctional mycelium composite is created after just a short time. In contrast to manually produced natural foams, the automation of our process makes the end product scalable and economically competitive. Depending on the intended application, the mycelium composite can be further processed in a variety of ways after sterilization. One and the same process can therefore be used to produce an alternative to polystyrene, chipboard or insulation material.
